Director of Quality Assurance (QA)

Major Responsibilities:

Lead the strategic direction for a comprehensive enterprise quality assurance program that delivers testing services throughout the system development lifecycle to ensure that applications are delivered to the business are free of defects and working per the approved design, while continually driving quality and cost improvements.  Drives the utilization of the test automation frameworks and enforces quality assurance standards and measures to maximize the benefit of business investments in IT initiatives.

 

•        Lead the development, establishment, and enforcement of quality assurance measures and testing standards for new applications, products, and/or enhancements to existing applications throughout their development/product lifecycles.

•        Determine the strategy for the effective use of quality assurance deliverables.

•        Create sourcing models and role structures to align to future state vision.

•        Ensure that software quality measures comply with regulatory standards, industry standards, and accepted best practices.

•        Lead/prepare test strategy for initiatives; create a comprehensive test plan, recognizing application interdependencies in complex environment.

•        Create methodologies and processes for the collection and analysis of data for ensuring software, systems, and product quality.

•        Direct the analysis of formal test results in order to discover and report any defects, bugs, errors, configuration issues, and interoperability flaws.

•        Direct the analysis of documentation and technical specifications for any new application under deployment or consideration to determine its intended functionality.

•        Develop change control processes, practices, and guidelines for new and existing technologies.

 

Operational Management:

•        Ensure proper alignment with any outsourcing strategy with the overall company strategy

•        Determines vendor selection & management skills, including offshore resources

•        Partners with IT business partners and customers to facilitate go/no go decisions on key initiatives.

•        Review project portfolio as requests come into the pipeline and plan for release scheduling

•        Establish and lead project requirements verification and process

•        Demonstrate solid demand management and effort estimation competencies

•        Prioritize and plan automation efforts

•        Manage resources, track progress through on-site and offshore leads

•        Incorporate standards and best practices to improve operational efficiency

•        Establish continuous quality improvement initiatives across the SDLC (not just in testing)

•        Implement key metrics and reporting to track improvements, including defect management & resolution

•        Cultivate and disseminate knowledge of quality assurance best practices

 

Requirements:

•        Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 8 years of progressive leadership experience with at least 3 years of strong testing leadership experience.

•        Successful experience coordinating testing between off-shore/on-shore testing teams

•        Strong technical background with strong technical knowledge across multiple platforms

•        Experience testing in both a Waterfall and an Agile development methodology approach

•        Expertise in all areas of testing, including: functional, regression, automated, performance/volume/stress, etc.

•        Understanding of, and execution of, risk-based testing concepts and overall risk management/mitigation planning

•        Proven ability to execute effectively in a complex and fluid technical environment
